Comfort and luxurious style of Leather Couches

Originally used by elitists and Arabian rulers, during the Age of Antiquity, leather couches served as a status symbol during that time because of the comfort and luxurious style that it offers. It was also greatly used by wealthy men during Ancient Roman times, but was reserved for men only; Roman women were never allowed to rest on leather couches. It was not until the Age of Industrialization in the nineteenth century that leather couches were introduced to almost every home of all types of classes in the society. This was the time when the exclusive use of couches for the upper-classes was entirely vanished. In-fact, a home without leather coaches would be seen as bland, incomplete, and even lacking in comfort and style.

In modern times, couches became a big part of life that it was considered a central part of family life. Leather couches can be seen in every house in the United States especially when it became a trend in the late 1960s together with leather fashion and one was considered “not in” when couches were not seen in their house. Leather couches were so in-demand because of its style that it became a part of the “funky” furniture style that boomed in the early 1970s when leather products became an “in” thing. Leather couch owners back then gained a certain reputation and a cool image in the community.

The trend for leather couches continued even on the late-twentieth and early twenty-first centuries because of its “funky” style and comfort that it offers.

Leather couches in general are made to accommodate two to three people and are commonly made of from cushions sewn over with sheets of leather or suede which is a tougher and courser form of leather. There are many different types of leather couches like Divan, Chaise lounge, Canapé, Sofa-beds, Two-person loveseat, just to name a few, are the most popular couches in the market today. Leather couches are commonly found in living rooms or dens and are normally accompanied by a coffee table in front then flanked by end tables.

Leather couches are still a trend today that an office will look incomplete without them. In-fact, I have never been to an office that doesn’t have a leather couch, they are so in-demand that even government offices have them. Society and the fashion world became obsessed with the look and feel of leather that it almost reached a point of neuroticism.

Leather couches, has the looks, easy to clean, feel great, leaves a “funky” smell, very comfortable, and I believe is here to stay!

Rocking Chair in 6 Tips

American fondness for rocking chairs has grown in numbers throughout the years and in-fact has become part of their daily lives. A vast growing number of Americans either own or are planning to own a rocking chair which is why we decided to create this article. After reading this, you will be able to choose a rocking chair for yourself or for your loved-ones.

Rocking chairs started appearing in the late 1700s when someone had the brilliance of adding skates or rockers to the bottom of a common chair to mimic the movement of a child’s rocking horse. Since then, owning a rocking chair has become a distinct American pre-occupation, with most Americans, including famous ones, showing great fondness for their rocking chairs. Some families even own elegent, creations of American designer Sam Maloof, elongated curved runners or the homely white wicker rocking chairs that has been around for several centuries now.

Now, the million dollar question, how do you choose a good rocking chair?

As promised earlier, here are some tips on how to go about choosing the best rocking chair in the market.

Tips on how to choose a rocking chair:

1. Location, design, and the kind of wood used.

This is the first thing that we need to consider. Before even deciding buy one we must keep in mind that the rocking chair we bought must be able to blend in with the internal design of your home.

There are some characteristics of wood that we may want to consider when choosing a rocking chair. If you are planning to put your rocking chair indoors by the fireplace or the family room, you can choose a cushioned or timber rocking chair made of light maple or yellowish oak. If outdoors like in your garden or front porch, you can choose a sweetly-scented cedar, a painted Brazilian cherry wood or teakwoods which are durable enough to withstand the elements.

Again, the design and wood type depends on the internal design of your home.

2. Comfort.

Here are a couple of things that we need to consider when testing a rocking chair:

- Does the rocking chair provide seating comfort and support?

- Is the chair set low enough for comfortable elbow support?

- Are the armrests wide enough to rest your arms and provide the right balance?

- Do the seat and back offer both firmness and flexibility?

- Do the seats slant downward to fit the whole back while supporting the lower back?

Rocking chairs should be able to provide the comfort that we are looking for. The late John F. Kennedy’s Appalachian Oak Rocker with a steam-bent curved backrest design and woven seat made of Malaysian rattan, provided not just comfort to its owner was also used for therapeutic purposes that provided relief for his bad back.

3. Is the rocker pitched correctly?

In layman’s terms, a good rocking chair should have a well measured balanced “skates” or “rockers” to provide you with a continuous smooth rocking motion without feeling uneasiness.

4. Constructing techniques.

Some of these techniques include construction without glue, interlocking joinery and the famous “Maloof technique”, which uses seven laminated strips of wood to strengthen each of the long, elegant skis that are used in his rocking chair designs.

5. Style

Do you want an upholstered rocking chair or do you want to see the timber’s natural wood grain enlivened by an oil finish? Do you want charming white wicker chair or casual rattan? How do you want your the back of your rocking chair – traditional ladder back horizontal slats, vertical slats or woven cane? Do you want it stained, oiled, varnished or painted?

6. Price

Of course, if we are aiming for good quality, top of the line, branded rocking chairs, then we might want to set aside a bigger amount. If we are not very particular with the design and have limited resources we may want to visit local furniture shops or visit eBay.

Everyone deserves quality time, I hope that this article will help you choose the rocking chair that fits your needs, so what are you waiting for? Go and buy one now! Experience the simple pleasures of life and be happy!
